What to Expect

Each workshop involves the hands-on preparation of shellfish. You’ll be shown how to prepare each species, according to which workshop it is. Following the initial demonstration, you’ll be guided through the process and assisted to complete the task, individually, which finishes with a ready to eat dish.

Throughout the workshop, advice, information and knowledge will be freely given which will help you understand more about our native shellfish species, their life, cycle, habitat and sustainability and how they’re caught, giving you the knowledge needed to make more informed choices and decisions when purchasing, preparing and eating.

What to bring

Bring comfortable clothing and footwear that’s appropriate for the weather on the day and a shingle beach. A weather forecast and advice will be sent via email/message 24 hrs beforehand. Workshops are outside on the shingle and sensible stout footwear - trainers/walking are advisable. We work in the open air, although if rain is forecast a gazebo will be erected prior to the workshop. A sun hat/sun cream may be advisable. Aprons, disposable gloves, kitchen tools, hand washing and drying materials are all provided. A medical kit is always available and you can read our risk assessment.

Do I need any experience ?

No, the workshops are aimed at novices and all instructions/tuition will be given

Can I eat my shellfish at the end of the workshop ?

Yes, absolutely! After the session, you are free to enjoy your shellfish picnicking on the beach, or simply take it home with you, in a box with a fresh salad garnish, which is provided along with disposable forks and napkins.

What if I don’t like shellfish /have an allergy ?

The workshop is based around handling and eating shellfish, so is not recommended for anyone with a diagnosed or suspected shellfish allergy or intolerance.

What does it cost ?

All shellfish workshops are £90/person which includes your shellfish dish to take away and a glass of wine. Bottled water is provided.

What if there’s bad weather on the day?

The workshops are run one beach and very much ‘al fresco’. The workshops are subject to weather cancellation following a forecast 24 hrs beforehand. If this is the case then an alternative date will be arranged or a full refund given.

Can I cancel ?

Yes, you can cancel and get a full refund, but not in the 7 days before the workshop date. This allows us time to resell the ticket. If for any other reason the workshop has to be cancelled on the day, an alternative date will be found.
