Shellfish Workshops on Aldeburgh Beach

What to Expect Each workshop involves the hands-on preparation of shellfish. You'll be shown how to prepare each species, according to which workshop it is. Following the initial naiduay, nicourses ded ready to eat ries and assisted to complete the task, hroughout the workshop, advice, information and knowledge will be freely given whic vill help you understand more about our native shellfish species, their life, cycle, habita and sustainability and how they're caught, giving you the knowledge needed to makemore informed choices and decisions when purchasing, preparing and eating.

What to bring comfortable clothing and footwear that's appropriate for the weather on the day and a shingle beach. A weather forecast and advice will be sent via email/message 24 hrs beforehand. Workshops are outside on the shingle and sensible stout footwear - trainers/ walking are advisable. We work in the open air, although if rain is forecast a gazebo will be erected prior to the workshop. A sun hat/sun cream may be advisable. Aprons, disposable gloves, kitchen tools, hand washing and drying materials are all provided.

Do I need any experience? No, the workshops are aimed at novices and all instructions/tuition will be given

Can I eat my shellfish at the end of the workshop? Yes absolutely! After the session, you are free to enjoy your shellfish picnicking on the beach, or simply take it home with you, in a box with a fresh salad garnish, which is provided along with disposable forks and napkins.

What if I don't like shellfish /have an allergy? The workshop is based around handling and eating shellfish, so is not recommended for anyone with a diagnosed or suspected shellfish allergy or intolerance. It may be advisable to avoid spirits on a day when you have eaten shellfish as they can cause a reaction in some people.
